High repetition rate Dazzler

High repetition rate ultrafast pulse shaper

For 15 years, AOPDF technology was limited to sub-30kHz repetition rates.
This new Dazzler, benefiting from the best of Fastlite acousto-optic design expertise, is compatible with pulse repetition rates up to 100kHz.

The same compactness, ease of use, and accuracy as the traditional Dazzler… just faster.

Invented and patented by Pierre Tournois, the AOPDF (for Acousto-Optic Programmable Dispersive Filter) relies on a longitudinal interaction between a polychromatic acoustic wave and a polychromatic optical wave in the bulk of a birefringent crystal.
Optical signals in the hundreds of Terahertz range are then controlled by RF signals in the tens of Megahertz range.

Quantitative shaping, No ghost pulses.

The spectral phase control is as accurate as the material properties of the crystal are known, without any assumption or hypothesis, thus allowing users to fully trust the shaping characteristics. Besides, the phase control in Dazzler is obtained through true group time delays, thus without any discontinuities versus wavelength.
To ensure an optimum stability of the material properties under high average RF power, the high repetition rate Dazzler crystal module is water cooled.

Ultra-compact, easy setup.

Unlike other ultrafast pulse shapers relying on 4-f lines to spatially disperse the spectral components, the Dazzler does not require a complex optical set up. The Dazzler crystal is the only component inserted in your setup, and installation is performed in less than 1 hour.
Moreover, due to the physics of the acousto-optic interaction, the Dazzler system only requires a single point calibration to achieve accurate results.
The high repetition rate Dazzler acoustic beam diameter is 500µm. Thanks to its high angular acceptance  (10mrad full angle), the laser beam can be focused in the Dazzler crystal

Easy integration.
Dazzler systems are fully integrated, turn-key pulse shapers.

Each Dazzler system includes:
– A crystal module: ultra compact (80x64x47 mm3) so that it can be inserted in any laser setup.
– A RF generator: generating the RF signals, and managing synchronization and communication with PC.
– A laptop computer: connected to the RF generator via a USB link,
– A User friendly software: giving access to both spectral phase and amplitude control parameters via the main screen window, as well as multiple pulse generation capabilities.

Thanks to its advanced software functionalities, the complete system can be controlled by an external user program written in any language, thus enabling the creation of rapid feedback loop-based experiments.

Yb doped amplifiers peak power increase.

Typically delivering few 100s fs pulses at high repetition rate, Ytterbium doped amplifiers performances can now benefit from the Dazzler technology. Shorter and cleaner pulses are now at reach for the most demanding applications, such as OPCPA pumping and generation of non-linear processes.

The combination of the Dazzler pulse shaping capabilities with the Wizzler high dynamic range measurement provides the most powerful compression optimization tool. Some feedback loop experimental data are shown here.

Several options are available to increase the high repetition rate Dazzler performances and improve its integration in various experimental setups:

CEP modulation
This additional electronic box allows to modulate and control the CE Phase of the optical pulse at repetition rates up to 100kHz, without changing dispersion.

For single-shot and high bandwidth CEP stabilization loop, or interferometer stabilization.

Jitter-free
Mandatory for CEP sensitive experiments.

This option locks the internal MHz clock of the Dazzler electronics with the MHz clock of the ultrafast oscillator.
As a result, optical jitter  below 100 attoseconds can be achieved routinely.

Octopuzz
The Octopuzz is an advanced synchronization tool, generating kHz-rate trigger signals divided from an internal or external MHz clock.
Logical functions between inputs and outputs allow advanced sequence management between laser, Dazzler, choppers, photodiodes, cameras, mechanical stages, etc…
The Octopuzz integrates all the needed features to manage the timings of any experiment.
